What You Should Know About NYSC Portal 

National youth service corps scheme was established in may 1973 by the then military head of state General Yakubu Gowon.

NYSC scheme was established to promote unity in Nigeria. As a student of tertiary institutions have to serve any part of Nigeria for a year that is different from where he or she is born or schooled. 

Due to the fear of the coronavirus pandemic, the NYSC batch A stream 1 in orientation camp was sent home after a week in orientation camp.

Now that activities in Nigeria in different sectors are resuming, people are asking questions. 

When will the Batch A Stream 1 and 11 Resumed?

 This question is in the minds of every graduates that is due for service.

Whether it is the Batch A stream 1 that was sent home after a week in orientation camp or the next stream 11 that should have started registration on the nysc portal. According to the Director,

Press and Public relations of National Youth Service Corps in person of Mrs Adenike Adeyemi said that the Batch A stream 1 will continue their orientation course after the corona virus lock-down.

The Director General of National Youth Service Corps NYSC, Brigadier General Ibrahim Shuaibu also made a statement giving hope to corpers in Nigeria that as soon as Nigeria Centre for Disease and Control NCDC and the Presidential Task Force (PTF) gives the green light to resumed activities then NYSC will resumed activities like every other sector in Nigeria.

He went on to state that a proposal had been submitted to the Director General of Nigeria Centre of Diseases and Control, Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu.

What is the NYSC Portal?

The National Youth Service Corps Portal includes any of the following:

The NYSC portal requires you to fill the necessary information about your school, sizes of clothes and shoes, places of service etc.

What are the Basic Requirements for registration in NYSC Portal?

There are simple and basic things to do when applying or registering online in the NYSC Portal. They are itemised below for easy comprehension.

  • Visit any of the following websites of NYSC at www.nysc.gov.ng or portal.nysc.org.ng
  • Use a working email address and Nigerian Mobile number (G.S.M. number).
  • The email address will be used to register in the NYSC portal. And the email address as well as the password should be kept safe for future usages. That is it will be used to log in again.
  • Prospective Corps Members  should use their Matriculation Number to register. It applied to only PCM that went to Nigerian’s University.
  • Your name must be on the Senate or Academic Boards List submitted to NYSC before you can register. This is for students that graduated from Nigerian’s University.
  • Those who attended University outside Nigeria or who acquire education online need to apply for evaluation in the Federal Ministry of Education. The letter of evaluation will be uploaded during registration.They should make sure their University is  accredited. 
  • Foreign students should use Nigerian Mobile numbers during registration.

Then the following will be required to be uploaded during registration and its includes:

  • Wassce certificate( at least 5 credits of 2 sittings)
  • General Certificate of Education (GCE),not less than 5 credits of 2 sittings.
  • NECO, at least 5 credits of 2 sittings.
  • High School Diploma
  • First Degree or Higher National Diploma. Second Degree or Ph.d is not needed.
  • A complete transcription of the First Degree or Higher National Diploma.
  • International travelling passport showing personal data page and date of departure.
  • Attestation Letters or testimonials are not acceptable.
  • All graduates must upload their Letter of Admission. Even working graduates should do that and also Letter from Employer.
  • Medical students or students that study health related courses like Nursing science, Pharmacy, Laboratory Science should upload their professional License during registration in the NYSC Portal.
  • Students of Non-English institutions must translate their certificate and transcripts into English before registration.
  • Any Graduates of Medicine, Physiotherapy, Veterinary Medicine, Optometry etc must have their certificate of registration with the professional bodies.
  • Graduates of foreign institutions will do their verification at the orientation camp. They are to come with the call up letter that was printed online along with all original documents uploaded online.

The passport photograph must meet the following standard:

  1. The faces which include the eyes, nose, mouth, ears and jaw must show without bending.
  2. The picture must be centralised and fill the allotted frame
  3. The background of the passport must be white or off-white without any shadow.

Note: Registration by Proxy is not allowed. This is because the Finger prints captured in the biometrics are required during the orientation camp.

You can print your call up letter online with the call up number but you will have to pay the sum of N2,786.24. 

Or you can go to your School to get the call up Letters.

If you were not mobilised after registration online, you do not need to pay again for the registration.

Female prospective corps members need to upload evidence of change of name and place of husband residence.

Pregnant and nursing women are not accommodated during the orientation camp.

Part time graduates can register online and wait to collect their Letter of Exclusion from their various institutions or print it online with the token payment of N2,786.24.

Other Things Needed For Registration

Other Things Needed For Registration Are:

Your name as it appears in your certificate, Jamb registration number, Matriculation Number, shoes sizes, clothes sizes, trouser sizes, place of birth, date of birth, next of kin, current passport, marital status, phone number, addresses, names of schools attended from primary to tertiary education etc.

What About NYSC Exemption Letter

The statement from the Director general of NYSC is a proof that NYSC will soon resume activities as well like other sectors in Nigeria.

And as such the portal will soon be opened and part time graduates can register online for their Letter of Exemption.

They can print it online or collect from their various institutions.
