NDLEA stands for National Drug Law Enforcement Agency. The agency was formed by Decree #48 of January 1990. As the name might suggest, they are a government agency that has the responsibility of eliminating the growing, manufacture, processing, selling, exporting, and trafficking of hard drugs in any form in Nigeria.

The Vision of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) is to become one of the best in the world and the most proactive and leading Drug Law Enforcement Agency in African as a whole through the provision of efficient and effective services to Nigerians by mitigating to the barest minimum, the supply of illicit drugs.

They intend to achieve these by;

– being present in international airports, border crossing, and seaports where they carry out searches of humans, goods, and luggage to make sure drugs are not being transported.

– acting on information to locate places hard drugs like marijuana and cannabis are grown in order to destroy them.

 – tracing and seizing drug-related proceeds or freezing accounts suspected to belong to drug kingpins.

– using resources at its disposal to track down drug dealers and the cabal heads in order to arrest and prosecute them thus preventing further drug-trafficking cases.

– using all avenues to strengthen, defend, and maintain the image of Nigeria and Nigerian people both at home and abroad.

NDLEA Salary Structure: What they pay their workers

Just like other federal government jobs, the NDLEA salary structure is determined by the grade level and steps which serve the purpose of distinguishing officers at the same level and also help maintain order and control of the payment system.

The agency is a paramilitary parastatal, therefore the salary follows the structure put in place by the Consolidated Paramilitary Salary Structure (CONPASS).

The NDLEA salary structure is also based on the grade level as earlier mentioned and steps that differentiate officers at the same level.

The NDLEA salary also depends on the level of education of the officers meaning HND holders are placed on Level 7, BSc holders are placed on level 8, and so on. Obviously, the pay for these levels differ.

NDLEA Graduates who as earlier mentioned are placed on Grade Level 8 earn based on different steps as follows:

Step 1 earns about N888,956 per year (before monthly deductions). That would translate to about N74,000 per month.

Step 2 earns about N900,071 per year (before monthly deductions). That would translate to about N75,000 per month.

NDLEA HND holders are placed on Grade Level 7 Step 1 and earn about  N483,353 per annum (before deductions). This otherwise mean they earn around a gross of N40,200 per month.

Also, there are some allowances accrued to personnel of the NDLEA, these allowances are also paid based on rank and position occupied in the agency.

This means that the total salary is computed as follows:

Level 8 step 1 = CONPASS + Rent Allowance

₦888,956 + ₦115,849

= ₦1,004,805 (total annual salary). i.e ₦83,733 (monthly)

Then that of HND holders who are placed on Grade Level 7 Step 1 is ₦573,287.

Level 7 step 1 = CONPASS + Rent Allowance

₦483,014 + ₦92,273.9

= ₦ 573,287 (total annual salary). i,e ₦44,773 (monthly)
